Reading this book gave me more insight into the world of design and business. It helped me differentiate between what a logotype is and what a brand is. One of my favorite examples of this is when he talks about Clorox buying out Hidden Valley Ranch. He gave the example of putting the Clorox logo on the Hidden Valley Ranch bottle, but instead the company made a smart decision and kept the two products different from one another.

Staying focused is important when designing products for your brand. You want the consumer to feel comfortable every time. Pay attention to the details. Towards the end of the book he talks about how “logos are dead.” Today we don’t necessarily solely depend on the printing press  because we have the internet and television. This way the producer can branch out and interact with people.

This book really helped me understand branding better in an easy way. It gave me a better understanding of what really goes into your brand and how to market yourself well. Today being a successful designer means you know all aspects of what goes on and knowing how to design and be smart about business decisions will really help the designer in the end. This book was easy to read and had a lot of useful information. I will take what I have learned from this book and apply it to my own design skills.
